Combray Design

I’d always associated embroidery with the traditional motifs of florals and frills, until I came across the work of the two French sisters behind Combray. Their approach is refreshingly modern: silk and cotton threads, bone, sequins and beading can be stitched onto any material (yes, sheer, velvet, mohair or overdrape too) to give it character and depth. Embellishment, here, becomes a way to layer in personality: on windows, cushions, or even the back of a sofa.
